ROSELLE, NJ – Freshman Leah Rubinshteyn scored five goals, and the Summit High School Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Team put 11 pucks into the net through two periods on their way to a 13-4 victory over Princeton at the Warinanco Skating Center. The victory marks the eighth-consecutive year that the Hilltoppers have captured the ‘Heritage Cup’, contested annually between the schools.

In addition to Rubinshteyn’s ‘high five’ of tallies, senior Sara Graham, junior Lily Neilan and sophomore Caroline Sharpe each had two goals, and sophomore Grace Hannigan and freshman Taylor Cornell both found the back of the net. Junior Emily Sharpe had two assists and senior goaltender Julia Oppici stopped 18 of 22 shots she faced.

The game’s outcome was not really in doubt after a first period in which Summit took a 5-1 lead, but the number of goals the Maroon and White would end up scoring on the day was. The answer — after two periods — was a whopping 11, giving the Hilltoppers an eight-goal lead heading to the third.

A relatively pedestrian two-goal third frame followed, with the girls from the 07901 cruising to their tenth win of the season.

Next up for Summit, now 10-5-1, is a January 22 trip to face Pingry. Face-off at the Bridgewater Sports Arena is set for 4 p.m.
