ROSELLE, NJ – In their final game at the Warinanco Skating Center before they take the same sheet of ice in attempt to reclaim the Union County Tournament crown, the Summit High School Boys Varsity Hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to Ridge.

Senior Davis Strabley had the lone Hilltopper goal and freshman goaltender Grant McCormack stopped 36 of the 39 shots he faced for Summit, now 14-5-1 on the season.

The Maroon and White will next face Westfield in the Union County Tournament Final. The February 9 title-decider — rescheduled from January 19 due to weather — will face-off at 4 p.m.

Against the Red Devils, Summit fell behind 2-0 after two periods, allowing a goal in each of the first two stanzas, but halved the lead when Strabley scored from the outside the crease on the left post at the 12:57 mark of the third, assisted by sophomore Justin Ross and senior Remi Vidal.

The Hilltoppers push for the equalizer went for naught, and Ridge got the all-important insurance goal when Matt Balzarotti scored his second of the night — unassisted — with 5:06 left.

Summit was outshot on the night 39-30.
