ROSELLE, NJ – Sophomore Greg Spitznagel had three goals and an assist as the fourth-seeded Summit High School Boys Varsity Hockey Team bounced back from a tough McInnis Cup Final defeat and formally opened the final phase of their NJSIAA Public C State Championship with a 8-1 thrashing of 13th-seeded Kinnelon at the Warinanco Skating Center.

Junior Tom Pryymak had a one goal, three assist night and classmate Nikita Pryymak turned aside all but one of the 16 shots he faced between the pipes for the Maroon and White, who improved to 17-6-1 on the season.

After Spitznagel opened the scoring 90 seconds into the contest, Kinnelon leveled on the power play at the 4:39 mark, however that tally would be the Colts’ last of the evening and The ‘Top was just getting warmed up.

Second-period goals from senior alternate captain Charlie Collins, classmate Remi Vidal, and junior Joe Galgano built a 4-1 lead, and the Hilltoppers tacked on four more scores in the third, with Spitznagel getting a pair for his Hat Trick, and sophomores Michael Bonomo and Kyle Graham each netting once. For Bonomo, it was his first-ever Varsity goal.

Summit advances to take on 12th-seeded Middletown North — which pulled a major upset to defeat fifth-ranked Manasquan — on February 22 at the Union Sports Arena. Face-off is set for 4:10 p.m.
