WAYNE, NJ – After losing three games in a row — and, just 24 hours earlier, giving up a goal in the final half-minute in the latest of those trio of defeats — and then finding themselves trailing Lakeland Regional 1-0 after the opening period, the Summit High School Boys Varsity Ice Hockey Team was in search of a jolt of positivity.

Thanks to four second-period tallies from four different goal scorers, they got that jolt and then some, using the quad of unanswered markers to take a commanding lead en route to an eventual 5-1 victory. The win, which ups Summit’s record to 6-3 on the season, snaps a holiday break slide that saw the Hilltoppers drop consecutive games to Bergen Catholic, Ramsey and Seton Hall Prep.

Lakeland suffered its first loss of the season, having entered the contest with a shiny 6-0-2 record.

Against the Lancers, The ‘Top got goals from senior captains Jake Puskar and Spencer Myers, classmate Joe Galgano, and juniors Greg Spitznagel and Michael Bonomo. Hiltopper senior netminder Nikita Pryymak stopped 24 of 25 pucks between the pipes.

Next up for Summit is a home matchup against Westfield January 7 at the Warinanco Skating Center. Face-off is set for 6:35 p.m
