ROSELLE, NJ – Days after their big win in the Union County Cup Final over Westfield, the Summit High School Boys Varsity Hockey Team got another big boost with the return of goaltender Nikita Pryymak. The junior, injured since before the season began, played a massive role in last year’s Public C State Title run and victory, and was being counted on to be a big piece of the puzzle in the Maroon and White’s quest for a repeat.

Judging by his first game back between the pipes, the puzzle looks to be coming together nicely.

The junior netminder stopped all 22 shots he faced, and number-one seed Summit got a pair of goals from senior Remi Vidal to vanquish fourth-seeded Montclair 4-0 in the McInnis Cup semifinals at the Warinanco Skating Center. The win advances The ‘Top to the title game of the McInnis Cup where, on February 16, Summit will experience a ‘Groundhog Day’ moment when it goes for its third straight McInnis crown, facing second-seeded Westfield in a title tilt for the second consecutive Saturday.

Vidal and junior Tom Pryymak scored late first period goals to stake the Hilltoppers to a 2-0 lead, and sophomore Greg Spitznagel and Vidal found the back of the net in the second and third periods, respectively. Juniors Joe Galgano and Spencer Myers each had a pair of assists, with a trio of seniors — captain Greg Moller, alternate captain Charlie Collins, and Davis Strabley — also contributing helpers on the day.

Summit, now 16-5-1 on the season, outshot the Mounties 28-22.

The Hilltoppers will take on the Blue Devils in the McInnis Cup Final on February 16 at the Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange. Face-off is set for 6 p.m.

The Richard J. Codey Arena is located at 560 Northfield Avenue.
