A decade of greatness: Meet the 15 best N.J. girls ice hockey players from 2010-19

Allie Aiello, Morristown-Beard, Class of 2013

Aiello was right in the middle of the Morristown-Beard dynasty that won five consecutive WIHLMA championships between 2010 and 2014 and she won each year she was with the program. She had 15 goals and 27 assists as a senior alone and totaled 66 goals and 87 assists for her career. Aiello played at Middlebury College for four years and recorded five goals, 13 assists and a +11 in 97 career games.

Annika Asplundh, Princeton Day, Class of 2017

Asplundh was a force for Princeton Day in her time between the pipes. As a senior, she recorded four consecutive shutouts and allowed just 21 goals in 14 starts and had a .943 save percentage. Her career save percentage checked in at .937 and she had 12 shutouts. Asplundh is now at Lindenwood University and has a .921 save percentage and 2.87 goals-against average in 25 games played this season.

Hanna Beattie, Pingry, Class of 2013

Beattie was a stellar defenseman for Pingry before moving on to play at Williams College and eventually the Connecticut Whale of the NWHL. She had a very gifted game in all three zones and put up a combined 37 goals and 30 assists between her sophomore and junior seasons alone. Beattie just recently participated in the 2020 NWHL All-Star Game in Boston.

Katherine Chester, Morristown-Beard, Class of 2013

Chester was arguably the best goaltender of the decade and was outright dominant in the crease. By the time she was walking out of Morristown-Beard’s doors, she had a career record of 48-4-2 with 30 shutouts, a 0.74 career goals-against average and .954 save percentage. Chester started 23 games for Connecticut College in the 2015-16 season and picked up a 1.38 goals-against average and .952 save percentage.

Kendall Cornine, Morristown-Beard, Class of 2015

Cornine was the program’s all-time leading scorer before Ally Detre bested her mark by one point in 2018. She was NJ.com’s Player of the Year for the 2014-15 season, where she recorded 34 goals and 32 assists, scoring at least one goal in every game. She finished with 104 goals and 95 assists in just 74 games and went on to a successful four-year career at RIT before being drafted and eventually signing with the Metropolitan Riveters of the NWHL. She also participated in the 2020 NWHL All-Star Game.

Ally Detre, Morristown-Beard, Class of 2018

The 2017-18 NJ.com Player of the Year won two Prep titles with the Crimson and graduated as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 200 points, hitting the mark in the 83rd and final game of her career with a hat trick. She also had 101 goals and is now playing hockey at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where she has eight goals and four assists in 47 career games.

Amanda Drobot, Lawrenceville, Class of 2014

A two-time NJ.com Player of the Year and an athlete who made an All-State team as both a forward and defenseman, Drobot was a special talent in her three years with Lawrenceville. She recorded 52 goals and 45 assists in those three years and went on to play at the University of Vermont. Drobot collected five goals and 38 assists in 145 collegiate games.

Haley Lafontaine, Pingry, Class of 2014

Lafontaine put up some strong numbers offensively and was a key piece of Pingry’s defense over the course of her carer. She closed things out with 11 goals and four assists as a senior, moving her career totals to 20 goals and six assists. Lafontaine took her talents to Middlebury College, where she recorded five goals, 17 assists and was a +9 in a 91-game career.

Kathleen McNamara, Morristown-Beard, Class of 2015

McNamara was another pivotal piece of what were very strong Morristown-Beard teams at the time. She recorded 29 goals and 68 assists over the course of her career as a defenseman, which is a program record, and went on to play at Boston College. As a junior, she recorded a +19 rating, third-best on the Boston College roster. She also played for Team USA in the 2019 World University Games.

Isla Okkinga, Kent Place, Class of 2019

Though she went on to play field hockey at Princeton, Okkinga was a star goaltender on the ice for Kent Place. She posted a remarkable .940 save percentage across her four years with the program to go with 12 shutouts. Okkinga was an all-state honoree in the 2018-19 season.

Jen Olnowich, Chatham-Madison/Chatham, Class of 2020

Olnowich has excelled in both the girls and boys game over the course of her brilliant career. As a junior, she racked up 14 goals and 11 assists as a defenseman. Now as a senior, she’s been a star goaltender on the boys side, recording four shutouts and posting a .904 save percentage.

Julie Patterson, Princeton Day, Class of 2019

Patterson developed into a top-notch scorer in her four seasons at Princeton Day. Her goal totals rose each season and culminated in a 25-goal campaign to close out her career. She finished with 63 goals overall and added 39 assists and is now playing at Wilkes University and has one goal and two assists in her freshman season.

Kristi Serafin, Princeton Day, Class of 2017

The blueliner for Princeton Day was terrific in all four seasons she was with the program. Serafin finished her career with a seven-goal, 19-assist season, bringing her final total to 28 goals and 48 assists. She scored seven goals in each season, adding to the consistency she brought to the team. In college, Serafin won the 2018 ACHA National Championship at Liberty University.

Victoria Zammit, Princeton, Class of 2020

The senior’s career is winding down and she’s going out with her best season yet with 29 goals so far. The 29 tallies have bumped Zammit’s total to 99 for her career. She has also jumped into a few games with the Princeton boys team and has an assist.

Megan Sanford, Kent Place, Class of 2018

Cecily Stabler, Summit, Class of 2017
