ROSELLE, NJ – The top-seeded Summit High School Boys Varsity Ice Hockey Team powered their way into the NJSIAA Public C State semifinals with a 6-1 win over ninth-seeded Verona at the Warinanco Skating Center. The Hilltoppers will now face fifth-seeded Manasquan March 5 at Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown.

Junior Greg Spitznagel had a pair of goals and an assist, and senior captain Jake Puskar notched a goal and three assists to pace the boys from the 07901, who won their 13th straight game and improved to 20-3-2 on the season. Senior goaltender Nikita Pryymak stopped 13 shots to earn the ‘W’ between the pipes.

Senior captain Tom Pryymak, junior Michael Bonomo and freshman Jake Lowry also all found the back of the Verona net, while senior captain Spencer Myers contributed two assists. Junior Aidan Cass, sophomore Jordan Lowry and Tom Pryymak also had helpers.

Summit outshot Verona 42-14. Chris Kostas stopped 36 shots and Noah Martinez scored an unassisted goal for the Hillbillies.

Spitznagel opened the scoring and then Bonomo scored shorthanded to give The ‘Top led 2-0 at the end of one period of play. It was 4-0, courtesy of ‘The Two Jakes’ — Puskar and Lowry — before Verona got on the scoreboard. Summit got that goal back when Puskar fed Tom Pryymak and it was 5-1 at the end of two.

Cass and Myers assisted on Spitznagel’s second of the game in the third period, the eventual comprehensive win putting the Hilltoppers one game away from a chance at a Public C three-peat.

The face-off time for Summit versus Manasquan is tentatively set for 4:30 on March 5. Mennen Sports Arena is located at 161 Hanover Avenue.
