ROSELLE, NJ – Caroline Sharpe and Emily Sharpe scored 56 seconds apart in the third period to break a 3-3 tie, and the Summit High School Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Team went on to defeat Chatham 6-3 at the Warinanco Skating Center. The victory sees the Hiltoppers improve to 7-1-1 on the season.

Junior Caroline Sharpe scored with 12:08 remaining in the final period and then set up her senior captain sister Emily Sharpe at the 11:18 mark. Sophomore Leah Rubinshteyn added some extra insurance when she score with 40 seconds left on the clock.

Outshot 33-28, Summit got 30 saves from freshman goaltender Lily Spinner.

Veronica Quidore had a goal and an assist for the Cougars.

Summit led 2-1 after the first period on tallies by freshman Elizabeth Puskar and Caroline Sharpe and, even though Rubinshteyn found the back of the net in the second stanza, two Chatham scores meant the teams were level heading to the final frame.

A couple of Summit milestones were reached during the contest, with senior captain Lily Neilan picking up two assists for her 50th career point, and Rubinshteyn’s two goals giving her 49 as a Hilltopper, which eclipses the previous school mark of 47 set by Class of 2017 grad Cecily Stabler.

Next up for Summit is an all-Hilltop City clash January 10 when the Maroon and White faces Oak Knoll at Warinanco. The puck drops at 5:15 p.m.
