Hats Off to Hannigan as Summit H.S. Girls Ice Hockey Tops Pingry, 5-3

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – Sophomore Grace Hannigan had a Hat Trick and freshman Leah Rubinshteyn scored twice as the Summit High School Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Team defeated Pingrry 5-3 at the Bridgewater Sports Arena.

The Hilltoppers led 4-0 after the opening stanza and 5-0 after two periods. Summit senior goaltender Julia Oppici had 20 saves as the Maroon and White improved to 11-5-1 on the season. Senior Grace Donohue had a pair of assists and her classmates, Morgen Shung and Blakely McCann along with freshman Lily Stockton, all notched helpers.

Rubinshteyn’s two goals give her 33 on the season.

Grace Hannigan’s Hat Trick and Morgen Shung’s assist gave both players a career high of 50 points.

Next up for Summit is the second-ever Morris Union Girls Ice Hockey League (MUGIHL) tournament, in which Summit is expected to receive the number-two seed. Other participating teams include Kent Place, Oak Knoll, Chatham-Madison, Randolph, Westfield and Pingry.

The Hilltopers will open against the seventh seeded squad January 30 at the Warinanco Skating Center. The puck will drop at 5 p.m.
