Goaltender Nikita Pryymak Sets New School Wins Mark as Summit Hockey Tops Morris Knolls, 6-2

UNION, NJ – Senior captain Jake Puskar had a Hat Trick and classmate Nikita Pryymak stopped 30 shots in goal as the Summit High School Boys Varsity Hockey Team defeated Morris Knolls 6-2 at the Union Sports Arena. The victory was Pryymak’s 30th between the pipes during his Maroon and White career, setting a new school record and topping the previous mark of 29 set by Jackson Stuckey (2008-11).

Juniors Justin Ross and Drew McLaughlin, along with senior captain Tom Pryymak. also scored for Summit, now 9-3-2 on the season.

The Hilltoppers led 2-0 after one period of play on goals from Puskar — set up by junior Michael Bonomo — and a power play goal from Pryymak, assisted by senior captain Spencer Myers and junior Kyle Graham. The lead was 3-1 after two courtesy of Ross, assisted by sophomore Pat Lumelleau, the goal offset by a short-handed goal by the Golden Eagles’ Jason Kwestel.

Up 4-1 after a power play goal from Puskar, assisted by junior Matt Vigliotta and Nikita Pryymak, Summit saw Morris Knolls trim the lead to two again but then closed with a pair of goal from McLaughlin and Puskar to seize the ‘W’.

Shots on goal were even at 32 apiece.

Next up for Summit is a Union County Tournament semifinal matchup January 22 at the Warinanco Skating Center. The number-one seeded Maroon and White will face the winner of the January 20 game between fourth-seeded Oratory Prep and fifth-seeded Governor Livingston. Face-off time for the semifinal is tentatively set for 5:30 p.m.
