MONTCLAIR, NJ – Falling behind 4-0 after the first period, the Summit High School Boys Varsity Hockey Team fought back to cut the deficit in half but then surrendered the next two scores and went on to drop a 6-4 decision to Montclair Kimberley Academy at Clary Anderson Arena.

The Cougars’ Oscar Worob scored four goals and his teammate Brian Schindler assisted on all six MKA goals. Sophomore Greg Sptiznagel had a goal and three assists to lead Summit, now 10-4 on the season.

Worob, Schindler and David Chen — MKA’s top line — had all four scores in the first period, with Worob netting a Hat Trick and Chen tallying the other goal.

The Maroon and White looked to be installing the foundational pillars of a comeback when seniors Charlie Collins and Davis Strabley scored in the middle frame, but Chen and then Worob scored seven minutes apart in the third to seal the result.

The Hilltioppers did get two back when junior Tom Pryymak scored at 6:49 and Sptiznagel fired home. The latter’s goal, however, came with just 6.2 seconds left in the game.

Freshman goaltender Grant McCormack stopped 11 shots for Summit, which was outshot 17-16 and now awaits its Union County Tournament seeding and opponent.
