ROSELLE, NJ – It was high drama as the Summit High School Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Team went skate-to-skate with an undefeated Chatham-Madison squad before taking on Oak Knoll in back-to-back contests, with each game seeing heroics in the final minutes and seconds, respectively.

Chatham-Madison tallied two. late third-period goals that lifted them to a 2-0 victory over the Hilltoppers at the Warninanco Skating Center. Lauren Arias and Molly Coyne scored goals in the third period for ‘Chatison’, and goaltender Ginger Boles made 27 saves. Senior goaltender Julia Oppici stopped 19 shots for Summit.

Arias broke the 0-0 deadlock when she scored 4:58 remaining.

‘Even Later’ Show as Hannigan’s Goal Earns Summit a Tie

Sophomore Grace Hannigan scored with just 10 seconds remaining in the game to earn the Hilltoppers a 4-4 tie with Oak Knoll at the Rock Ice Center in Dunellen. Hannigan’s goal, her second of the night, was assisted by sophomore Caroline Sharpe and junior Emily Sharpe.

The see-saw affair saw the teams trade goals the entire game. Oak Knoll would score, the Maroon and White would answer and the process would repeat. Emily Sharpe and senior Blakely McCann had goals two and three on the night for the Hilltoppers, and senior Julia Oppici made 20 saves.
